Abstract

Background. The institution of citizenship is one of the most important legal institutions and represents the basis of the legal status of an individual in society and the state. Throughout the history of domestic legal science, the study of its content, features, as well as the search for ways to improve it continues in order to optimally reflect reality, tak-ing into account a specific period of historical development. In this regard, the experience accumulated by the science of Russian pre-revolutionary state law on this issue is interest-ing. Materials and methods. The article is based on publications of domestic pre-revolutionary scientists. Methods of the research are dogmatic, historical, comparative. Re-sults. The analysis showed that pre-revolutionary scientists had interesting approaches to studying various aspects of the legal nature of the institution of citizenship. Conclusions. The modern model of the Russian institution of citizenship reflects the practice of legisla-tive regulation of these issues of the constitutional-monarchical period of our history, and also takes into account and uses the scientific and practical experience accumulated by the science of Russian pre-revolutionary state law on this issue.
